Di Newland Di began practicing yoga in 2000 for the relaxation and breath benefits. Six months later she fell pregnant with her third child and continued a regular Iyengar style Hatha Yoga through her pregnancy. Di delivered her third baby completely naturally, helped by the breathing techniques and asanas learnt in yoga. These techniques not only assisted with the birthing process, but also helped her with a speedy post-partum recovery. After this experience, she was convinced of the many benefits of yoga and continued her practice regularly whilst fully breast-feeding and raising her other two children. In 2003 she commenced a teacher training course with Morrison McQueen. Towards the end of her teacher training she began practicing exclusively in the Ashtanga Yoga Tradition, and has been practicing daily since. In 2007 she visited India, Mysore, for the first time to practice with Pattabhi Jois and Sharath. This experience deepened her practice from within, bringing the connection of yoga into every aspect of her life. The desire to return led her back to Mysore again in 2008 where she was able to further her practice. Fully dedicated to practicing in this tradition, and respectful of the lineage, she is keen to continue returning to Mysore and practicing with Sharath. Di has been teaching an average of ten classes a week to the local community and the corporate stream, including pregnancy and post-natal yoga, since 2004. She is convinced about teaching the awareness of internal strength, bandha and correct breathing. She enjoys the challenge of teaching to the many different levels of practitioners. From a thirst for more yoga knowledge she is nearing the completion of a secong training course that took her deeper into the many facets of Yoga, including historical roots, styles of yoga, Yoga Sutras, Buddhism and meditation, yoga for specific conditions, anatomy and physiology, philosophy, physiology, pranayama and Ayurveda.
